Over two weekends in October 2026, the Philippine Consulate General in Houston joined Filipino communities at a series of events across Texas, from North Texas to Houston and the Rio Grande Valley.

These gatherings reflected the many sides of Filipino life in Texas. The PCCI Maharlika Gala celebrated the community’s spirit of service, while the PACCTX Annual State Gala in McAllen showcased Filipino enterprise. The Ilocano Club of Metro Houston marked 45 years of fellowship and generosity at its anniversary gala. At the Filipino American History Month Festival and the Lone Star Palengke, the Consulate joined in celebrating Filipino heritage and brought overseas voter registration directly to the community. And in Sugar Land, faith brought the Chavacanos De Houston together for their Fiesta Pilar.

Each gathering distinct, one Filipino community throughout. A fitting way to mark Filipino American History Month.

Consul General Gunther Sales was the guest speaker at the Maharlika Glitz & Glam Gala of People Caring for the Community, Inc. (PCCI), held on 10 October 2026 at the Philippine Community Center in Houston.

In his remarks, Consul General Sales paid tribute to the generations of Filipinos who built their lives and community in Texas, and to the leaders and volunteers who established the Philippine Community Center and keep it running today. Reflecting on the spirit of Maharlika, he noted that nobility is not what one has, but what one makes possible for others. He also reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to stand with PCCI in serving the Filipino community.

The Philippine Consulate General in Houston, represented by Consul Von Ryan Pangwi, attended an exhibit of the works by sculptor Elaine Bordeaux at the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center in Cedar Hill, Texas, on 26 September 2026.

A highlight of the exhibit was “Diwata,” Ms. Bordeaux’s homage to the nature spirits of Philippine folklore, long believed to inhabit and protect the country’s forests, mountains, and rivers.

Consul Pangwi congratulated Ms. Bordeaux on a collection that celebrates the harmony between people and the natural world. He also commended Cedar Hill Council Member Patricia Bushart, who was present at the exhibit, for the city’s steadfast work in preserving and protecting its woodlands and green spaces.

The Philippine Consulate General in Houston hosted Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso of Zamboanga City from 16 to 17 September 2026 for a series of engagements in Houston and San Antonio.

The programme included meetings with the Office of the Mayor of San Antonio and the Houston Mayor’s Office of Trade and International Affairs, visits to San Antonio’s Emergency Operations Center and the World Heritage Center, and a tour of the disaster response training facility of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

Mayor Olaso also met the Filipino community at the Consulate’s Mabini Halll and closed the visit over dinner with Zamboangueños in Houston, where Chavacano was the language of the evening.
